From custom rifles to explosive fishing, and the Sportsman Channel Outdoor Fest, The Revolution with Jim and Trav is celebrating this week with an Outdoor-A-Palooza! Listen in as we'll be joined by Michael Waddell, co-host of Michael Waddell’s Bone Collector. Then, Derrick Ratliff, President and Founder of Horizon Firearms and Jarrett Edwards from Jarrett Edwards Outdoors. Jim and Trav's Outdoor-A-Palooza is presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV.

Everybody loves a little panfishing action, but the hot summer days can make for tough fishing. Jarret Edwards, host of Jarrett Edwards Outdoors on World Fishing Network joins The Revolution this week with tips for increasing your success on the water during these hot summer months. Jarrett tells Jim and Trav that while panfish can be found shallow all year long, he likes to head offshore and use electronics to identify brush piles and other deeper structure. He says these locations often provide a little more consistency as well as the opportunity to hook up with bigger fish. Jarrett says that not many anglers are targeting these deep water panfish yet, like they will in the fall and winter, so finding areas can result in more consistent success. When it comes to gear, Jarrett says he likes using light line, like a 2-pound test with a 7-foot ultra light rod and a 1/100-ounce jighead with small hook. When it comes to bait, Jarrett says that live baits are hard to beat, and he likes meal worms and maggots. As for plastics, Jarrett talks about some of the great panfish offerings from Yamamoto Custom Baits made in his hometown in Arizona. The old adage of letting the fish tell you what they want is true. Jarrett says that you have to take your cues from the fish to decide whether artificial or live baits will dominate the day. He’ll also highlight the importance of balancing your tackle and equipment with the species you are pursuing for more bites. Finally, Jarrett will weigh in on fishing in areas with active algae blooms, and how to use that thick cover to your advantage. Tune in for great tips from Jarett Edwards of Jarrett Edwards Outdoors on WFN.

The one and only Michael Waddell is joining us this week for a three-part interview where we’ll talk elk, deer and the Sportsman Channel Outdoor Fest. Michael is the host of Michael Waddell’s Bone Collector and Realtree Road Trips on Outdoor Channel where new episodes are airing now.

Kicking things off, the Sportsman Channel Outdoor Fest is happening this weekend in Houston, Texas at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This is a celebration of the outdoor lifestyle, a hunting, fishing and shooting event happening July 20 – 22. You can get all the official info right here, and purchase tickets. Michael Waddell will be there along with other tremendous outdoor personalities you see on your favorite hunting and fishing shows on Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network. The great thing about this event is that it’s built around the people. Fans will have access to hunting and fishing pros like Pigman, Pat and Nicole Reeve, Michael Waddell, Tom McMillan and more through meet and greets. Attendees can also attend seminars, see live product demos and so much more. It’s going to be a fun event. If you’re in the area, be sure to check it out!

We are getting really close to the opening of some big game seasons across the country. One of those is early season elk. Michael has taken some incredible bulls and he’ll talk about the differences between elk hunting and deer hunting strategies. Michael tells Jim and Trav that unlike deer hunting, he takes a much more aggressive approach to pursuing elk and puts more pressure on them than he does whitetails. When hunting elk, especially on public land, Michael says time is of the essence as you never know when other hunters may push in and blow out the bulls you’ve been pursuing. Knowing that, hunters have to find situations where the elk are the most vulnerable and, even with small windows, work to get your shot. In the event that you blow your stalk and bump the elk, Michael says hunters still have a chance. Elk are good at giving their positions up through noise, bugling and when hunting open areas, glassing from a high point can help you get back on them.

Archery seasons for deer will soon be opening as well and Michael weighs in on how to use their needs against them. He says that people often over complicate how smart deer actually are. In truth, deer are very curious animals with good instincts and a will to live that helps them avoid, to the best of their ability, predators. Depending on the time of year, Michaels says they either want something to eat, something to breed or to establish their dominance. The ability to manipulate one or all of these factors to your advantage can help you find success. Michael says that decoying can be very effective and uses it mostly in the height of activity leading up to the rut. Because they are so eager to breed, they can often make mistakes. Finding a location where you can set up a buck decoy to catch them as they are out cruising early in the morning or just before dark looking for does can be a recipe for success. When they see another buck and hear grunting and/or rattling, many times it’s enough to bring them in and offer the perfect shot opportunity.

Tune in for an in-depth talk on elk, deer, archery equipment and hunting strategies with Michael Waddell.
